Thomas Allen was on muster roll of a Militia Company under Capt. John Wookhouse 1758, Tyrrell Co., North Carolina. He served in the revolutionary war under General Washington, and had personal experience with the general. Public Claims vouchers (State of North Carolina) list the following payments for his Militia service during the war:14 shillings, 6 pence, June 1782; 15 pounds, 10 shillings 6 pence, August 31, 1782; and 37 pounds, 14 shillings, September 15 1783. From Some Descendants of Thomas Allen of Surry Co. N.C. whose son Richard Allen brought his family to Wayne Co. Ind. in 1828, later migrating to Fayette and Madison Co?s. Ind. Including some Crouse and Johnson Families affiliations, also some early Snodgrass connections. Collected and Inscribed by Edgar B. Allen 1945-1970. Indianapolis. Pages 5 -7, including a photo copy of the 1783 payment. The volume also has very specific information about Thomas Allen?s land purchases in Surry Co.
